Do-It-Yourself Fundraiser Of The Month

One youth group decided to "Pastor-nap" their pastor as a fundraising project. on a Friday afternoon, the MTT (Manzanita Teenage Terrorists) came in and kidnapped their pastor. They had a video team on hand and MTT taped the invasion leading to the ransom of the pastor for only $2,000. "If you give us the money, you get him back. If you don't give us the money, you still get him back." on Sunday morning, the Pastor was still no place in sight. The service went on as planned with the teenagers leading the service. Then, a group of teens dressed in black quietly entered the service. The music stopped suddenly and the tape was shown. The leaders presented their own part of the video by being the News Telecasters. As the service ended, so did the pastor-nap. The "terrorists" stood at the doors with their bags to collect the $2,000 ransom.

Non-Profit In The Spotlight

To date, more than 19,000 U.S. troops have been wounded in the war against terrorism. Because of advances in medical technology, emergency evacuations, medic training, and state-of-the-art treatment centers, more military personnel than ever are surviving their battlefield injuries. The statistics tell the story: In World War II, the ratio of wounded to killed was about equal. Today, that ratio has climbed to nearly eight wounded for every death. Given the number of wounded, it is impossible because of budgetary or regulatory constraints for the Defense Department to offer all the services required by those who are recovering and transitioning to civilian life. Providing for these unmet needs is the goal of The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation's "Military Heroes Fund."

Interesting or Fun Facts

The online auction site eBay was founded in 1995 by computer programmer Pierre Omidyar as Auctionweb. The first item ever sold on eBay was Omidyar's broken laser pointer for $13.83. Astonished, he contacted the winning bidder and asked if he understood that the laser pointer was broken. In his responding email, the buyer explained: "I'm a collector of broken laser pointers." The frequently repeated story that eBay was founded to help Omidyar's fianc?e trade PEZ Candy dispensers was fabricated by a public relations manager in 1997 to interest the media. Jeff Skoll was hired as the company's first president and full-time employee in 1996. In November 1996, eBay entered into its first third-party licensing deal, with a company called Electronic Travel Auction to use SmartMarket Technology to sell plane tickets and other travel products. The company officially changed its name to eBay in September 1997. Originally, the site belonged to Echo Bay Technology Group, Omidyar's consulting firm. Omidyar had tried to register the domain name EchoBay.com but found it already taken by the Echo Bay Mines, a gold mining company, so he shortened it to his second choice, eBay.com.
