Los Angeles, CA: Sixth, seventh and eighth students at Muir Middle School hold 'Trashin Fashion Show' fundraiser to benefit their respective classes, all with an eco-friendly frame of mind. The show featured designs made almost entirely out of recycled materials, including cardboard boxes, bottles and gardening supplies. There was a skirt made from dozens of plastic lids from disposable coffee cups, strung together like chain mail. A sleeveless top, upon closer inspection, turned out to be bubble wrap spray-painted black. one student created an entire outfit - including earrings and shoes - out of Capri Sun juice packets. Another sported a dress made out of a bag made for yard waste and a belt cut out of a cat litter box. The sole male model wore a gladiator-inspired outfit made of test sheets, pages from a dictionary and the Muir Middle School student newspaper. More than 40 students participated as designers, models and producers. Some worked in teams, or with their entire homeroom class, while others tapped their parents' sewing skills.

Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk (UK) - The Bury Wacky Races is a fundraising event, which takes place in the town of Bury St Edmunds. It involves teams taking part in a series of unusual challenges ranging from a ‘nappy run’ – where contestants wear a water- soaked nappy on their heads – and an egg and spoon race in the Arc shopping centre, to a three-legged procession through the town culminating in a tug-of-war and archery competition at Bury Rugby Club. It was great fun and also had a serious side of raising money for Suffolk Breakthrough Breast Cancer Group.
