Cookham Dean, Berkshire, UK - Mud was sent flying as teams of competitors in  the annual Boxing Day Games at the Old Cricket Common in Cookham Dean. The fundraising competition is a tradition stretching back more than 30 years and featured nine teams of eight from pubs, organizations and sports clubs competing in wacky games for the prestigious Loo Seat Trophy. Challenges included a frenzied sack race around bales of hay, a two-man relay on wooden skis, an egg throwing competition and a race where contestants had to negotiate a course while dancing the conga with black hoods blocking their vision. The finale featured a much-feared obstacle course, with Dynamo Five Elms retaining their crown as overall winners at the end of the morning's exertions. A knock-out tug-of-war challenge also returned, with winners Popes Lane Pacers awarded the Loo Lid Trophy. The fundraising event raised about 500 for a variety of local causes.

Phoenix, AZ - Darth Vader, Captain America and a group of zombies walked inside the UltraStar Multi-tainment Center off State Route 347 one afternoon. Phoenix Comicon and the movie and gaming news website Skewed and Reviewed organized a laser tag tournament against local fan clubs as a fundraiser for the national nonprofit group Kids Need to Read. The fundraising tournament was played inside the center뭩 two-story laser tag arena. The competition attracted several costume-wearing clubs, turning the inside of the movie theater center into scenes ripped from a comic book page. 밒t뭩 a very surreal place right now, said Adam Saks, the theater뭩 general manager and vice president of operations. 밯e뭭e got Star Wars to superheroes to comic characters. We뭭e got a couple of villains walking around too, so I think we뭭e a got quite an interesting mix. The kids are having a great time. Lakeville, MN - The year is 3010 A.D. The war stricken planet known as Earth has been virtually demolished since the Collapse. Hundreds of years of intense warfare was so detrimental to hospitals and agriculture that eventually society and its services fell. As food and supplies became more and more scarce, Earth뭩 population drastically decreased. All that is left are two factions of survivors in North America fighting for what little that is left. That뭩 the scenario for this year 밄ig Game held annually by MN ProPaintball as a fundraiser for Children뭩 Hospitals of Minnesota. Back to the scenario: one faction is known as the LAW, mostly composed of police and military veterans whose training, team work, and intense tenacity proved worthy in a harsh and unforgiving world. The second faction is known as the UNDERGROUND, a fierce assembly of vigilantes who are surgically organized and far from merciful. Want to fight for the LAW or the UNDERGROUND? Want to see for yourself the surprise these factions have in store when they try to raid Ashport? Come to the 5th annual Challenge fundraiser for Children뭩 Big Game to support a great cause and get in the action!

Victoria, B.C. (Canada) - Desert Bus for Hope is an online telethon, streaming 24 hours a day as a fundraiser for Child뭩 Play, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of sick children. Just as geeks and gamers tend to be bit removed from the norm, so is this telethon. Instead of answering phones or running a marathon, the Desert Bus for Hope teams plays the worst video game ever. Seriously. Designed as a tongue-in-cheek parody of simulation games, Desert Bus 밹hallenges the player to drive a sim-bus between Tucson, Arizona and Las Vegas, Nevada. The road has no turns, curves, scenery, or even any other traffic. The game is in real time. A single run takes eight hours. once arriving at the destination, the player is 밶warded one point and given the option to take the trek back.  This online fundraising event is much more than just playing a video game.

Chesapeake, VA - More than 250 people came ready to strike out Alzheimer뭩 disease at the Young Adults for Alzheimer뭩 Awareness (YAAA!) For a Cure Black-Tie Bowling fundraiser held at the AMF Chesapeake Lanes in Chesapeake, VA. Sold out for the third year straight, YAAA! For a Cure Black Tie Bowling has become one of the more buzz-worthy to-dos of the South Hampton Roads spring fundraising events season. And for good reason. Though for a serious cause raising money for Alzheimer뭩 awareness, research, and support services the event doesn뭪 take itself seriously. As the name suggests, it is a black-tie affair. But similarities to a would-be stodgy black-tie gala end there. This 밼ormal on top and 밶nything goes on the bottom fundraiser has inspired some of the most inventive ensembles imaginable, and guests cannot wait to out-do their previous year뭩 look.

Sacramento, CA - Sacramento State Athletics recently held their second annual crabfeed fundraiser which has become an instant hit and a significant source of funding for student-athlete scholarships for the department. This year they hosted 650 people and raised an estimated $50,000, an increase of 200 people and $22,000 from the inaugural fundraiser. Ticket prices for the crabfeed were $45 per person or $450 for a table of 10. Donations were also collected from the event뭩 raffle, beverage sales, and live auction which included a painting from local Sacramento artist Thomas Kinkade. In addition, donors that attended the fundraiser were able to mingle with current and former Sacramento State student-athletes, along with department administrators. Crabfeeds are a popular charity event throughout northern California, as each year millions of pounds of crab are served as a part to support various service, church, and school groups. These events typically happen in the early winter months just as crab fishing season is kicking off.

Coming to a city near you - Tough Mudder is an endurance challenge and fundraiser that was designed by the British Special Forces. Each event consists of a unique 10- to 12-mile trail run over rugged terrain, featuring steep inclines, water hazards and 18 to 25 military-style obstacles testing one뭩 toughness, fitness, strength, stamina, mental grit, teamwork and camaraderie. These obstacles aren뭪 for the faint of heart. They will push you to your limits physically and mentally. The obstacles participants will endure include swimming in near-freezing water, running down a narrow path enclosed on both sides by walls of scorching flames, and dashing through a web of dozens of electrically charged lines that hang from the top of a metal frame. So why will up to 500 tough-minded individuals willingly subject themselves to this abuse at each event? There is the challenge and reward of completing such a difficult challenge. More importantly, there is the goal of fundraising for charity. While participants can raise money for any cause, Tough Mudder is officially partnered with The Wounded Warrior Project. Tough Mudder hosted its first five fundraising events in 2010 and raised $600,000. In 2012, Tough Mudder grew to host events in 11 U.S. cities. For 2013, that number is on pace to triple while expanding to Australia, the U.K., Japan and Canada. Due to this rapid growth, Tough Mudder announced in May that they raised $1 million for The Wounded Warrior Project. That fundraising total is on track to eclipse $2 million by the end of this year.

Rochester, NY - How do you take a negative and turn it into a positive? Just ask Christ Community Church of Rochester. Due to funding cuts, the church, which runs a Christian preschool and summer camp, Kingdom Kids, was left without enough money to offer scholarships to families who cannot afford the programs. So, necessity being the mother of invention, Kingdom Kids Cirque de Fun was born. The family carnival fundraiser was held at the church. "We are very pleased with our first-time endeavor," said Teresa Fox, program coordinator at the school. "We raised approximately $11,000 for the scholarship fund." Lisa Mills, special events coordinator, said, "I had a super committee who came up with all sorts of ideas for fun things that would appeal to a wide variety of ages. Children can enjoy the Seasons room, Noah's Ark, Wild West and Outer Space, Beach and Under the Sea rooms, which all offer a specific theme of activities, plus a great performance stage show." The Danger Committee offered an incredible combination of juggling, knife throwing, and hilarious comedy. The nationally recognized group entertained with two stage shows during the evening fundraising event. The ooh's and aah's were evidence of the audience's fascination and enjoyment of the feats of skill and thrill by the entertainers.

Atwood, IN - American Bikers Aimed Towards Education (ABATE) of Indiana held their 2013 ABC Fundraising Ride for Hoosier Burn Camp. The ride began at the Atwood Community Center. Tavistock, Devon, UK - It has been a hard winter for farmers with bad weather, disease and depressed prices driving many to rely on food banks for survival. But farmer's wife and cook Sandra Vallance, who runs a bed and breakfast establishment at the historic Kilworthy Farm, near Tavistock, was determined to do something to help. So she threw a "Sunday Afternoon Fun" fundraiser, including a tour of the listed Victorian farm buildings which boast Devon's biggest water wheel and a fashion show, with clothes (from shooting gear to posh frocks) modeled by local farmers and their wives. There was an auction, music from the Tavistock College jazz band, plus cream teas and a children's quiz. Sandra said: "Following the enormous strain placed on farmers due to unusually heavy snows in March, many people asked how they could help." She stepped in, with the support of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution, who benefited from the 10 fundraising entry fee for adults, 2.50 for children.

Dalton, MA Happy with last year's inaugural home brew contest, Kelly's Package Store is bringing it back. But this time, they have turned it into a fundraiser for Berkshire County Kids' Place. The store's first contest last year drew some 300 people to sample from 34 beers. This year, they hope to double that as a fundraiser for the organization working to help child abuse victims. "We were looking for a charity that we could get behind," Jason Dennis, one of the store's managers, said on Tuesday. Dennis expects more than 50 home brewers to enter. The brewers are asked to bring enough to share with the general public as well as professional tasters. Wacky beer names encouraged. "Last year, people didn't realize the festival was open to the public," Dennis said. The cost is $10 for the tasting and Samuel Adams brewer Boston Beer Co. is raffling home brew kits, bar kits and autographed items with the proceeds going to Kids Place. Home brewers will vie for prizes for the best in four categories: ale, lager/fruit/bock, India Pale Ale and stout/porter.

Plymouth, PA Burt Reynolds. Tom Selleck. Groucho Marx. Yosemite Sam. Where would these icons be without their most famously distinguishable facial features, their mustaches? Despite being in some stellar company with the impressive modified horseshoe 뭩tache he뭗 nurtured for more than a month in honor of his late friend and colleague, Officer Brad Fox, Sergeant Rocco Wack of Plymouth Township Police Department said the thing was coming off. Soon. 밣robably tonight, Wack said, grinning, in a roomful of fundraising facial fuzz Friday night at the Brad Fox 멣tache Bash at LuLu Shrine in Plymouth Meeting. 밒 was trying for a retro 70s look, and I like it, but it뭩 irritating me, admitted the event뭩 organizer. Brad Fox 'Stache Bash benefited the late Officer Fox's family on May 10. Officers from Plymouth, Whitemarsh, Conshohocken police departments and elsewhere were among those who sported their hairy emblems of comradeship, which began with a shave-off to establish an even facial playing field for all participants on April 1, and culminated with the May 10 Beef 몁 Beer benefit fundraiser for Fox뭩 widow and children. Unlike Wack, a dapper-looking John Howley said his upper lip had bonded well with the neatly trimmed mustache he뭗 cultivated. 밒뭢 keeping it, he announced proudly.

Calgary, Alberta - The Coronation Ball is a spectacular annual fundraising event thrown by Calgary뭩 largest drag-queen performance organization, the Imperial Sovereign Court of the Chinook Arch. Raynham, MA - The enthusiastic young founders of 밆uct Tape by Quack Quack are fledgling entrepreneurs with big ideas and even bigger hearts. Their young lives have been touched by cancer, and they were determined to come up with a positive and creative way to make a difference. So, the little band of friends ranging in age from 3 to 12 decided to open a fundraising stand in their Princess Lane neighborhood in Raynham. But instead of selling lemonade they offer a full line of fun, fashionable items they make out of an unlikely material: duct tape. 밫he best part of our stand is all the profits of our fundraiser go to the American Cancer Society, said Shannen Tierney, a seventh grader at Raynham Middle School. Their ingenious and useful products include wallets, hair accessories, bookmarks, phone cases, dolls and jewelry in a variety of bright colors and stylish patterns, such as zebra stripes, flames, rainbows and flying pigs. They purchase the decorative tape at craft shops and are self-taught with a little help from the internet. The girls have a mascot, appropriately named Huggles the Duck, and even made their own uniforms, hand-lettered t-shirts, big glasses and colorful headbands decorated with what else? duct tape.

Williams and a team of 11 others will race two Volkswagen beaters for charity in this wacky fundraising event. The cars in the race must have been purchased for under $500, according to crew chief Craig Bentley. The goal is to keep them running for the entire race, which despite the name runs 14.5 hours during daylight hours Saturday and Sunday. 밫here뭩 a lot of duct tape involved, Williams said. 밣retty much everybody뭩 car is held together with duct tape.
