Do-It-Yourself Fundraiser Of The Month
Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, one basketball team went to the local mall every weekend. They had arranged with the mall management company for an area to have a Coat Check. Stores in the mall donated the temporary use of racks to hang the coats on and a secured area for people to leave packages, etc. They handed out a "coat check" ticket and shoppers left their coats, mittens, etc with them while they shopped. The asked for a minimum donation of $1 for the service. They were able to raise thousands of dollars with very little upfront cost. The only thing they had to pay for were rolls of tickets that you can buy at any office supply store, and they even got a parent to donate that. It was a very easy and profitable fund raiser that the kids had to work to get the money for their program. |

Non-Profit In The Spotlight
The journey from adolescence to adulthood has never been easy. In every generation and in every place, teenagers have struggled to come to grips with their place in the world. They want to know if there is meaning to life in general and if their own lives are important. Among our nation's youth are some 300,000 teenagers whose parents and guardians have committed their lives to service with our armed forces. These students are scattered among overseas bases and installations in the U.S. The problems and struggles of military teens are similar to those of the typical teenager, but intensified because of their context. Military installations, even in the United States, are often isolated. Military teens are frequently uprooted from familiar settings and replanted in a foreign country with language, culture and customs they don't understand. Further, the heightened pace of military operations in the post-Cold War and post 9/11 environment has meant more and more absences from the home of the service member, creating temporary single parent homes for the majority of military families for at least a third of any given year. While spiritual support becomes a more readily perceived need in this stressful environment, it is estimated that 2% or less of the military teen population has any exposure to Christian influences within any given week. At Military Community Youth Ministries, we believe that there is a great need to reach these young people, to build meaningful, no-strings-attached relationships with them and to communicate the love of Jesus Christ in understandable terms. |
Is this you? Youre the new fund raising chairperson. You need to raise big money for your group. You have lots of people that say they will help, but only a handful that you can count on. We need something different and safe, a project where we dont risk our own money. It needs to offer our customers value and be profitable for us. (100% profit would be nice since we are doing all the work) And, it would be great to raise the money and have fun doing it. Check out the Your Town-Opoly program at Pride Distributors. |
